11 Tips To Bond With Your Tarot Deck (Connect With Your Cards)

Whether you’re new to tarot or if you’ve been reading the cards for years, it’s important to form a relationship with your tarot deck(s).

After all, these cards are probably going to be accompanying you on your future journeys!

As with many meaningful relationships, building them up takes time and energy but the results are often more than worth it.

Forming a connection with your deck can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like and the ritual you create should be tailored to your own preferences.

In this blog post I will share some tips with you that have personally helped me build a connection and form a lasting bond with my tarot decks.

So let’s get started!

Tips On How To Connect With Your Tarot Deck

1. Clear Your Space

First and foremost, it’s always a good idea to clear the energy of your space before shuffling and laying out your tarot cards.

You want to make sure that there is no negative energy lingering in the room, so consider performing a cleansing ritual such as burning sage or using crystals.

A simple yet powerful way to practice this is to take your sage or crystal(s) and move it around your space while saying a mantra of your choice.

I personally love to use the following mantra or affirmation, “I clear this space of negativity energy and welcome the highest good.”

This will ensure that the energy of your space is cleansed for your tarot reading.

Crystals that are especially helpful for this purpose include Clear Quartz, Obsidian and Amethyst.

You can also use essential oils such as lavender or sandalwood in your space for a calming effect.

2. Get To Know Your Deck

Before starting your reading, spend some time familiarizing yourself with your deck.

Look through the cards and get to know their meanings.

Spend time studying each card, taking in all its symbolism and artwork.

This will help you connect on a deeper level with the deck and better understand all the unique meanings behind the cards.

Most of the time, tarot decks come with a guidebook that explains the different meanings and interpretations of each card.

Take advantage of this book to help you better understand your deck.

Of course, you can also find a lot of tarot card meanings at the tarot section of my website or simply use the search bar to find what you’re looking for!

It’s important to choose a deck that you feel comfortable with and can easily connect with.

I always like to choose a deck that has artwork that speaks to me and is meaningful.

For me this usually includes lots of colors, images and symbolism that resonates with me on a personal level.

I would like to encourage you to choose a deck that you feel intuitively most drawn towards.

Especially when you’re just starting out with tarot, choosing a deck with keywords and meanings written on the cards can help you to connect and understand the meaning of the cards much quicker.

3. Connect With Your Intuition

Your intuition is one of your greatest tools when it comes to tarot reading, so make sure to tap into it.

Before you begin any tarot reading, take a few moments to ground yourself and focus on your intuition.

Allow it to guide you through the process so that you can get a clear understanding of the cards and their messages.

A surefire way to know that you are in tune with your intuition is if you feel at ease when handling the cards.

If you ever feel anxious or overwhelmed, take a few moments to ground yourself and recenter your focus.

4. Create A Sacred Space

Creating a sacred space for tarot readings is an important part of connecting with your deck.

Choose an area in your home where you feel comfortable and safe and make sure to keep this space clear of any distractions.

This is where you will go to connect with your deck, so make sure that it’s a place that inspires creativity and inner peace.

It’s important to focus on creating a safe and sacred space for your readings.

Before you begin any sort of reading or deck exploration, make sure that you have set aside a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted.

This could be anywhere from your bedroom to an outdoor spot by the ocean, whatever feels right for you.

Once you’ve found your special spot, take some time to clear the energy of the space by using the methods mentioned above and create a peaceful atmosphere.

I personally also like to meditate for a few moments before I start my reading, as this helps to ground me and focus on connecting with my intuition.

5. Use An Intentional Shuffle

When shuffling your deck, take the time to set an intention.

Focus on your question or a specific situation you wish to receive guidance on.

Be mindful of your breath and the motion of your hands.

Visualize the energy of your intention moving through the cards and into your reading.

6. Give Thanks

Make sure to give thanks to your tarot deck after every reading.

This is a great way to show your appreciation and gratitude for the guidance it has provided.

You can even keep a journal where you write down all of the insights that you’ve gained from readings, as a way of expressing your thanks.
