How To Cleanse Selenite (Plus One Mistake You Shouldn’t Make!)

Cleansing crystals is an essential part of making sure you can keep using your stones with great confidence and safety. While I was going through my crystal collection a little while ago, my Selenite crystals suddenly caught my attention which made me wonder what would be the best way to cleanse them correctly. This is what I’ve found out.

Even though Selenite cleansing is not necessary as it is a self-cleansing stone, each crystal deserves cleansing and can benefit from it even if it is only in the smallest kind of way. A good way to cleanse Selenite is by smudging it with sage or Palo Santo, or to cleanse it under the Full Moon.

Now let’s take a closer look at the cleansing options mentioned above, and also find out what cleansing technique you should avoid at all times when it comes to your Selenite crystals.

How To Cleanse Your Selenite (Crystal Stones, Towers Or Lamps)

Even though, as I mentioned earlier, cleansing your Selenite crystals might not be equally as important as it would be for any other types of crystals, it is a respectful thing to do as you do get to use the energies and best intentions of this crystal.

I personally use either of the following two methods when it comes to cleansing my Selenite crystals, towers and lamp:

Smudging With Sage Or Palo Santo

A great way to cleanse Selenite (and any other type of crystal) is by smudging them with sage or Palo Santo

Palo Santo is a type of tree that grows in South America and literally means Holy Wood, which already kind of reveals why it can be greatly beneficial to your crystals! It gives off a fresh lovely natural scent of pine, mint and lemon and will fill your home with love, positivity and clarity.

Sage is a great well-known tool to use for spiritual cleansing rituals which makes it perfect to use with crystals. It purifies the air and has the ability to improve your mood as well, which sure is a nice side effect!

After you light your sage or Palo Santo, blow them out so only the smoke remains. You can place them in an incense bowl along with your Selenite. The smoke of the sage or Palo Santo will surround the Selenite and cleanse them of any negative energies they might have held on to.

Cleansing Under The Full Moon

Another method I have experienced is great for cleansing Selenite is by bathing them in the healing energies of the Full Moon.

When you do decide to cleanse your Selenite under the Full Moon, wait until after sunset and make sure you lay them in a spot where they are directly connected to the earth (or on another natural object like a piece of wood) and where they will be able to soak up direct moonlight

You can either choose to lay your Selenite directly in your garden or out on your balcony, or place them on your windowsill.

The next morning, make sure to collect your Selenite before sunrise so all of the energies of the full moon will remain collected. It’s best advised to set your alarm for this, as you don’t want to risk having to wait cleansing your Selenite until the next full moon! (what makes you think this happened to me … *insert cricket sound* …  okay, moving on!)

After you’ve collected your Selenite in the morning, if you feel like it then you can take an additional helpful step: take a moment to do a short meditation with your Selenite where you send positive thoughts and vibrations towards it for ultimate results during your future spiritual practices.

Now your Selenite will be all cleansed, charged and ready to take on the spiritual world with you!

Can You Cleanse Selenite With Water?

It is best advised to not cleanse your Selenite crystals with water as Selenite will dissolve when being put in contact with liquids. Even though it might survive an occasional rinse, you really should avoid soaking your Selenite in water for a longer period of time.

If there is one method you should avoid when it comes to cleansing your Selenite crystal it is definitely cleansing your Selenite with water

Can Selenite Be Used To Cleanse Other Crystals?

Selenite is a great stone to cleanse and charge other crystals and can definitely be used for this activity. If you have specific crystals you’d like to cleanse, you can lay them on or next to your Selenite stones and make sure they are physically connected.

That way, the healing and cleansing energy of the Selenite will be transferred on to your other crystals. A Selenite Bowl could be a really great and easy tool to use for cleansing as well!

Keep your crystals together with the Selenite for at least 6 hours in order to let your crystals fully benefit from the exceptional cleansing powers of Selenite.

To Conclude

By now you know that, although Selenite crystals don’t necessarily need cleansing, I would personally advice to do so.

Even though a crystal like Selenite might come across as strong and self-sufficient, they do need just as much love and attention as all of your other crystals! (It’s just the same as with humans, the ones that come across as super strong and independent, are usually the ones who could really need and appreciate a bit of understanding, support and love at times!)

You can either cleanse your Selenite crystals by smudging them with sage or palo santo.  Another great way to do this is by cleansing them under the full moon. And remember; as long as you don’t soak your Selenite in water, you should be just fine!
