Can Clear Quartz Go In Water? The Ultimate Do’s And Don’ts

I recently got myself a new Clear Quartz crystal which I am absolutely head over heels in love with. I personally think my Clear Quartz crystal is beyond perfect and I truly felt a deep magnetic connection from the very moment I laid eyes on it. Needless to say; I just had to add it to my collection!

As it is commonly recommended to cleanse (new) crystals in order for the crystal to be able to fully provide its unique properties, I started wondering whether I could use the element of water to cleanse my Clear Quartz crystal. I’ve decided to do some in-depth research on this query and this is what I’ve found!

Clear Quartz can go in water. As Clear Quartz scores a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale it can safely come into contact with water without leaving any traces of damage. After having put Clear Quartz in water, make sure to let it dry completely either by using natural sunlight or manually.

Now that we know Clear Quartz is generally water resistant, let’s take a closer look at some specific water types and find out whether it is recommended to use them on your Clear Quartz or not.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Salt Water?

Even though Clear Quartz can technically go in salt water, it is not recommended. As salt water (or sea/ocean water) has the tendency to bite away porous material, using it as a cleansing method for your Clear Quartz is something to preferably avoid in order to prevent any damage from occurring.

As tempting as it may be to wash your (Quartz) Crystals in the ocean, be aware of the fact that this may cause the crystal to slowly start tearing down, especially when it already shows some signs of damage.

While Clear Quartz is a tough crystal that can take a bit of roughness as it scores a solid 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, make sure to rinse it off as soon as possible with regular water whenever it has been in touch with salt.

A great alternative would be using the water of a river or stream to wash or cleanse your Clear Quartz crystal. That way your crystal will still be able to deeply connect with nature without the possibility of the crystal getting harmed or dissolve by coming into contact with salt.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Hot Water?

Clear Quartz can go in hot water, but it won’t bring any additional benefits to the crystal. If you must use water with a heightened temperature, let it cool down a bit and use warm water instead. Don’t let the crystal get too hot as it will become difficult to hold it in your hand.

If you do decide to use warm/hot water to cleanse your Clear Quartz crystal, you could do so by holding it under the tap, let the temperature rise slowly and not let it get any hotter than your own body temperature in order to be able to keep holding it comfortably.

Allow the Clear Quartz crystal to rinse off under the tap for a couple of minutes and let it dry completely before storing or using it.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Rainwater?

Clear Quartz can go in rainwater. As it is a natural water source that doesn’t contain salt, it is safe to use. Soak your Clear Quartz in rainwater for a maximum of 2 hours and make sure to dry the crystal afterwards. This can be done by either letting it dry in natural sunlight or by hand.

You can collect the rainwater by for example using a bucket or other container and save it for later use. You could also leave your Clear Quartz crystal out in the rain for an hour or two and let it catch the raindrops by itself.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Moon Water?

Clear Quartz can go in Moon Water. As Clear Quartz is known to bring balance and spiritual growth, it is a great ‘ingredient’ to add. As long as there are no harmful materials such as salt added to the Moon Water, Clear Quartz can be added to the water without any problems.

Moon water is great to use for activities such as watering your plants or cleaning your house. As it contains the magical energy of the moon and crystals such as Clear Quartz, it tends to have a positive effect on whatever end use you decide to apply it.

If you want to make your Moon Water even more powerful, prepare it during a specific moment such as the full or new moon. The full moon will help to close repeating cycles while the new moon is great for assisting with new beginnings. Depending on the results you’d like to achieve with your Moon Water, choose the moment that suits your personal situation best.

In Conclusion

So, to summarize, Clear Quartz can go in water. It’s a crystal that scores a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale which means it is resistant to liquids. It is best advised to put Clear Quartz in water for a maximum of 2 hours and then collect it again. Make sure to let the crystal dry completely either by using natural sunlight or by hand.

Even though Clear Quartz can stand a bit of salt water in general, it is best recommended to avoid using salt water (or sea/ocean water) altogether. Salt water has the tendency to negatively affect porous crystals so it is better to be safe than sorry.

When it comes to putting Clear Quartz in hot water, this can be done but there are no additional benefits of using hot water instead of cold water. If you must use water with a higher temperature, make sure it’s not too hot as it will be challenging to hold the crystal in your bare hands.
