When it comes to Amethyst, water is a popular natural element often used for cleansing techniques. However, as there are many ways to cleanse your Amethyst with water, knowing which methods are suitable and which are not is a very important piece of information to collect.

So, can Amethyst actually go in water?

Now that you know Amethyst is generally water-safe, let’s take a more in-depth look at what type of water your Amethyst crystals (such as Amethyst clusters, points or rough/raw pieces) are resistant to and what types of water can best be avoided to ensure optimal preservation of your precious Amethyst crystal!

Can Amethyst Go In Salt Water?

Putting Amethyst in salt water for an extended period of time is not recommended as the crystal can eventually get damaged. If your Amethyst has come into contact with salt water, make sure to rinse it off thoroughly with regular water to avoid any form of depravation.

Some people prefer to use ocean water instead of regular tap or filtered water to cleanse their Amethyst. While ocean water has great energetic benefits for the crystal, the salt components of the water can unfortunately damage the Amethyst in the long run.

If you do want to use, for example ocean water, to cleanse your Amethyst; make sure to just give it a quick short dip instead of a long soak and rinse off the Amethyst with regular water from top to bottom to wash off any salt particles that may have stayed attached to the crystal.

However it has to be emphasized that if you can avoid salt water to come into contact with your Amethyst in any way, it is best advised to do so. Avoiding salt water is your best bet to prevent your Amethyst from ultimately getting damaged.
